Trip to Cameroon

Good morning and happy beginning of the week, today we want to tell you what we are working on right now, where a large part of the team of Libros de las Malas Compañías (Bad Crowd Books) is and what they are up to.

On 1 November Ana Cristina Herreros, Daniel Tornero and Kike Carbajal travelled to the south of Cameroon with the association Zerca y Lejos, which has been working with the Baka communities since 2001 to achieve their emancipation, the recognition of their rights and the preservation of their culture, and with whom we are working on the creation of the next book in the Serie Negra(Black Series).

On this trip we wanted to get to know the Baka community and their reality, these incredible people who were contemptuously called pygmies, "people the size of a fist" and who have been part of the African equatorial rainforest of Cameroon, Congo and Gabon for hundreds of thousands of years.

There, they were part of the forest’s ecosystem and lived in perfect balance with their environment. They are hunters and gatherers; they do not store and only hunt or gather what they need.

But in recent years, logging interests have displaced the Baka from their ecosystem. They have been driven out of the forest and forced to settle down. Stripped of their traditional ways of life, they have also been alcoholised. So, they do not protest. It is urgent to preserve their oral memory, their traditions and thus recover their identity and their dignity.

That's why Libros de las Malas Compañías, together with Zerca and Lejos, are going to make a book recovering the likanó,the traditional tales of the Baka. We hope to have it ready in April 2020 and we hope you receive it as well as you have received all the books in the Serie Negra(Black Series).

To whet your appetite until then we would like to show you some photos of this wonderful trip:
