In Libros de las Malas Compañías we are organising the 3rd edition of the illustrated album contest La gente también cuenta (People also count). In this third edition of our contest we wanted to give voice and prominence to an oppressed and invisible collective, as we have done in previous editions, with homeless people and people with autism.
This year, the competition focuses on transgender people, with the title TRANS people also count. From our publishing house we want to celebrate the new trans law promoted this year and give a space and an opportunity for this collective to be protagonist and participant in our country’s literature and culture.
Like any person or organization, aware and educated of the cause, we fervently support the LGTBIQ+ cause, as it represents a defence of the most basic, international and essential human rights, which we should all defend for anyone. The possibility to love, to feel, to express oneself, to be, cannot be limited or suppressed by anyone or anything.
We believe that the improvement of living conditions and the increasing representation of transgender people in society is an improvement and an advance in society as a whole, as it makes us more open, tolerant and inclusive.
For this reason, this third contest focuses on transgender people.
The implementation of the trans law is not only a triumph for the LGTBIQ+ community, but also for the rest of the people. It helps us to create a new model of a country in which we are more aware of other realities and more diverse, in which all the rights and freedoms of everyone who make up this social scenario are represented and included.
